Not so long ago faced a problem with bluetooth on my laptop. When i try to connect a headphone out, i see error "Stream Setup Failed".

I was able to solve the problem quite simply. I installed a newer version blueman from the repository "utopic".

Installation into Linux Mint 17/17.1 by single command:

For amd64 (x64)

Linux terminal: ~$cd /tmp && wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/blueman/blueman_1.23-git201406261335-deb-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb && sudo dpkg -i blueman_1.23-git201406261335-deb-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
For i386 (x32)

Linux terminal: ~$cd /tmp && wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/blueman/blueman_1.23-git201406261335-deb-1ubuntu1_i386.deb && sudo dpkg -iblueman_1.23-git201406261335-deb-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
Then you should reboot your system

Linux terminal: ~$ sudo reboot
Good luck!!

    This is how I got my JBL 2 bluetooth speaker to work in Linux Mint 18, (4.4.0-28) on a MBP 8,2.

    Turn on the speaker, you should hear the sound that it connects, open sound settings, (Menu, preferences, sound) then click on the JBL speaker icon. Test for sound, no sound. I then switch in "Output Profile" from High Fidelity to Headset Head Unit. You will see the phone symbol flashing on the JBL speaker. I then turn off speaker, wait for about 10 - 15 seconds, turn speaker back on.

    When the speaker comes on and connects the phone symbol is flashing, press the phone symbol to turn it off. Back in Sound Settings change the output profile back to High Fidelity, test sound, got sound.

    I know this is not the solution, but a work around, because I have to do it every time I want to listen with the JBL 2 speaker. I did install Blueman, but did not help.
