Installation latest version into Linux Mint:


sudo add-apt-repository ppa:random-stuff/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install snes9x-gtk

- good compatibility with almost all known ROMs SNES
- gamepad support
- support saving
- assigning hotkeys
- ability to take screenshots
- recording and playback of passages in the format .smv
- the SuperEagle filter, Scanlines, etc.
Very decent quality and the emulator.

How old is this information? Because:

Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:~bearoso/ubuntu/ppa'.
ERROR: '~bearoso' user or team does not exist.

That PPA was removed very recently. You can use my ppa (listed above) instead.

in the settings repository manually replace instead xenial specify vivid

1.
sudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ewscott9-snes9x-trusty.list

2. paste there 2 strings
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ewscott9/snes9x/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ewscott9/snes9x/ubuntu trusty main

3. add GPG key. Single command
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com `sudo apt update 2>&1 | grep -o '[0-9A-Z]\{16\}$' | xargs`

4.
sudo apt install snes9x-gtk
