Installation latest version into Linux Mint:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:random-stuff/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install snes9x-gtk

– ability to take screenshots

How old is this information? Because:

Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:~bearoso/ubuntu/ppa'.
ERROR: '~bearoso' user or team does not exist.

That PPA was removed very recently. You can use my ppa (listed above) instead.

1.

sudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ewscott9-snes9x-trusty.list

2. paste there 2 strings

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ewscott9/snes9x/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ewscott9/snes9x/ubuntu trusty main

3. add GPG key. Single command

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com `sudo apt update 2>&1 | grep -o '[0-9A-Z]\\{16\\}$' | xargs`

sudo apt install snes9x-gtk
