Interesting statistics led the Linux Foundation: only 11.8% of Linux kernel developers are working on a grant basis and work for the idea. The rest are maintained by large corporations.

In 2012 volunteers was more of 14.6%. Researchers say a steady downward trend in the number of “ideological” developers and predict a further decline.
Linus Torvalds commented on the figures are very quiet. In his opinion, nothing terrible happens, on the contrary, it is a good sign: prospective developers are very quick to notice the Corporation and employ to do the same kernel development, but for money.
