Double Commander is a cross platform open source file manager with two panels side by side. It is inspired by Total Commander and features some new ideas.

Initially, the project was developed as a free alternative to the popular file manager – Total Commander. However, in the process of development of this program evolved into a separate and powerful application that combines all the main functionality of Total Commander (including support for its plugins), as well as some of its own special, convenient and useful options.
Here are some key features of Double Commander:

*Internal text editor (F4) with syntax hightlighting
*Built in file viewer (F3) to view files of in hex, binary or text format
*Archives are handled like subdirectories. You can easily copy files to and from archives. Supported archive types: ZIP, TAR GZ, TGZ, LZMA and also BZ2, RPM, CPIO, DEB, RAR.
*Extended search function with full text search in any files
*Configurable button bar to start external programs or internal menu commands
*Total Commander WCX, WDX and WLX plug-ins support
*File operations logging

Installation into Linux Mint:

sudo apt install doublecmd-gtk[/simterm]

for KDE version

sudo apt-get install doublecmd-qt[/simterm]

Installation latest version into Linux Mint:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexx2000/doublecmdsudo apt updatesudo apt install doublecmd-gtk[/simterm]

for KDE version

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexx2000/doublecmdsudo apt updatesudo apt install doublecmd-qt[/simterm]

There’s one thing you forgot to say, Shekin: There’s also a portable app of DC. I consider it the most pragmatic solution. Download the gtk2 tar.xz file, unpack it to your home folder, create a link to “doublecmd” (no extension) – et voilà. If you subscribe to their newsletter, you’ll get a mail as soon as a new point release is being published. Excellent!
