This is my favorite GUI text editor for Linux, I use the Windows version all the time too. I also covered this topic here.
I'm using Mint Cinnamone installed on virtual machine VMWare. The instruction helped me to adjust my mouse scroll wheel speed. I set the value to 6. Now it's comfortable to use the mouse. Thanks a lot!

Update Linux Mint 17.3 to Cinnamon 3

Update Linux Mint 17.3 to Cinnamon 3

Desktop environment Cinnamon 3.0 will be default in Linux Mint 18, which will be published in may/June (exact date not reported by the developers - preparedness).

Sorry for the spelling and phonetic errors in the text.
Owner and main writer of MintGuide.org is not a native English speaker.

The Cinnamon 3.0 is not a radical, but theit are some innovations.
The main innovations:

*Window management improvements on tiling, mapping and unmapping windows, compositor’s window groups and tracking of full screen windows

*Improved out of the box touchpad support (edge-scrolling and two-finger-scrolling can now be configured independently and are both enabled by default)

*New accessibility and sound settings (both rewritten as native cinnamon-settings modules)

*Battery powered devices can be renamed

*Different favorite applications can now be set for plain-text, documents and source code files

*Panel launchers now include application actions

*Animation effects are now enabled by default on dialogs and menus

*Favorites and system options can now be disabled in the menu applet

*The photo-frame desklet now also scans subdirectories

*Improved support for GTK 3.20, Spotify 0.27, Viber

Please Help
I followed this tutorial last week everything works fine until I updated it today. I can't login. It says

Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem.

Here is the .xsession-errors file
cinnamon-session[2863]: GLib-GIO-ERROR: t+0.00150s: Settings schema 'org.cinnamon.desktop.interface' does not contain a key named 'gtk-overlay-scrollbars'

Please provide me some help. Thank you very much
yes after upgrade to cinnamon 3.0.2 people have same error
yet I can not help, because I can not reproduce the error. I'll try.

Thanks. I tried fresh installation to another machine then update it. Same results.
yep! same situation on my virtual pc.
I think the problem is in the repository fails to load some package. Maybe soon this will fix the developers. If you enter in recovery mode, there you can update the packages and try to reinstall.

Synaptic package manager has to rebuild search packages every time I open it, (about 30 seconds) after installing Cinnamon 3.0.5. I hate to un-install Cinnamon 3 it is so nice and smooth. This has been the only problem I have found so far.
I boot without logging in, set it up that way when I installed LM 17.3.
My system: MacBook Pro 8,2 late 2011 dual boot with rEFInd
Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bit
Cinnamon Version 3.0.5
Linux Kernel 4.6.0-040600-generic
Processor Intel Core i7-2675 CPU @ 2.20Ghz x 4
Memory 15.6 GiB
Hard Drive Crucial SSD 250 GiB
Graphics Card Intel Corp 2nd Generation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
Graphics Card AMD Inc [AMD/ATI] Whistler [Radeon HD 6630/6650M/6750M/7670M/7690M] (prog-if )) [VGA controller]
Any comments or help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance.
