Early upgrade Linux Mint from 17.2 to 17.3

The final version of Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa", on assurances of developers, is due out at the end of this month, but want to "touch" the new system can do the update from Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" to Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa", without waiting for the official release right now a few commands in the terminal.

Note. Upgrading from Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" to Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" is really officially released for all desktop environments of Linux Mint: Cinnamon, Mate, KDE and XFCE.

First of all, the system needs to be put in the current state with the following commands:

apt update
apt upgrade

After all the updates, restart the computer:

sudo reboot

After updating, to update the distribution code you want to change the name of the official repositories for rosa with the following commands:

sudo sed -i 's/rafaela/rosa/' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo sed -i 's/rafaela/rosa/' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

These commands will update the system files and will do the distribution upgrade:

apt update
apt upgrade
apt dist-upgrade

After all the updates, restart the computer:

sudo reboot

After a new login you can check the version of the distribution in a graphical application: System info.

Rolling back to Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela"

If the upgrade process was not normal or something goes wrong in the system, run the following commands to undo the changes:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list.bak /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

And then restart the computer.
