Install Linux Kernel 3.14.2 (Stable) in Ubuntu or Linux Mint

 

Suitable for Ubuntu 14.04/13.10/13.04/12.10/12.04 or Linux Mint 16/15/14/13
 
Installing the Linux Kernel 3.14.2 into Linux Mint/Pinguy OS or others Ubuntu distrs:
1. Open a terminal, copy and run one of the commands according to the architecture of your system/computer, at your own risk:

For 32-bit (single command):
cd /tmp && wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.2-031402-generic_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_i386.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.2-031402_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-image-3.14.2-031402-generic_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_i386.deb && sudo dpkg -i *.deb
For 64-bit (single command):
cd /tmp && wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.2-031402-generic_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.2-031402_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.2-utopic/linux-image-3.14.2-031402-generic_3.14.2-031402.201404262053_amd64.deb && sudo dpkg -i *.deb
2. Update GRUB (GRUB need to upgrade the Linux system where it is installed, if you have more than one)
sudo update-grub

Note If you have a boot loader installed BURG, and it should be updated:

sudo update-burg

3. At the end of the installation, close all applications and restart the computer the following command:

sudo reboot

Once logged in, check the version of the current kernel with the command:

uname -r
If you decide to delete the kernel 3.14.2, run this command:
sudo apt-get purge linux-image-3.14.2-*
To return to the previous kernel when booting Grub select Previous Linux versions
