Yes, you are right, Linux Mint 17.3 features over the old version. I just tried to install on linux mint 18 and installed version 5.1.
I tried to install the latest version from here (3 files) for linux mint 17.3, I did not succeed. Not satisfied with all the dependencies. Maybe if you can update versions of dependencies. Or update your system to the latest version.
