Screenkey original was abandoned, but the efforts of other developers, the application continues to live thanks to fork, which is almost a complete rewrite screenkey 0.2 (the latest version released by the original developer) and includes several improvements and new features, such as:

Because previously did not exist repositories with the latest version of Screenkey 0.8, WebUpd8 team uploaded it to their main PPA repository along with slop (which adds in some additional features, mentioned above), so you can now easily install and update on Linux Mint and related ubuntu's derivatives.
Installation latest version into Linux Mint:
 
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install screenkey
