Have you ever thought about security for your files in Linux Mint? If not, then you probably have nothing to hide. And if you have something, but I don't know what software to use, Cryptkeeper for you! This is a small but very handy applet that will help to protect important files.
With Cryptkeeper you can easily create a protected folder, which can be connected only by entering a password. Another convenient time - with the right password the folder just premontres as a hard disk. Simple and convenient.

Installation latest version into Linux Mint:

sudo apt-get install cryptkeeper

After installation I chose reboot, to avoid surprises. It immediately became accessible from the menu.

After launching Cryptkeeper, you will not see the interface immediately. In the system tray will appear the Cryptkeeper applet, by clicking on which you can create a new password protected folder

Enter the folder name and specify its location

Now you have to specify a new password of your protected folder

To access the password protected folder you need to select it in the menu of the applet. And, of course, enter the correct password

After that, your protected directory will be available to you. You will see how its mounted section, because EncFS to create a separate virtual file system in user space.
You can create in the folder the new files and directories as if it were a regular folder, only requiring a password when you first access.

To permanently delete a password-protected folder, go to the "Edit" menu of the applet and click "Delete" next to the desired folder.

Please note that the program Cryptkeeper does not start by default with the start of Linux. You must start it manually or add to startup.
