WebTorrent Desktop - simple open Bittorrent client for streaming

WebTorrent Desktop – simple open Bittorrent client for live streaming available for Linux, OS X and Windows. The application interface is quite simple, it allows you to drag and drop the torrent file or paste magnet link to start browsing its contents.

Sorry for the spelling and phonetic errors in the text.

In WebTorrent Desktop does not have a database of torrents, search, or something similar. It only displays four popular open the video (the section that later become filled you add the torrents) and a section where you can drag your torrent files or paste magnet link to start streaming.

The torrent can contain a video or audio application supports both types of content.

According to the developers, whether it's a video from the Internet Archive, music from Creative Commons or audiobooks with Librivox, you can easily play it. No need to wait until the download is complete.

In addition to the possibility of streaming torrents on your computer, WebTorrent Desktop can also stream content to AirPlay, Chromecast and DLNA.

WebTorrent Desktop can detect peers via tracker servers, DHT (distributed hash table) and peer exchange. The application also supports WebTorrent Protocol that allows it to connect with WebRTC-peer (e.g. web browsers).

Unfortunately, the app does not yet support subtitles. If you are interested in this opportunity, you can track its status here. The other, currently missing opportunity is the ability to use an external video player, such as VLC, mpv or others. But the app is still in beta, so the lack of opportunities – this is normal.

Those who prefer the command line, you can try webtorrent-cli. As WebTorrent Desktop webtorrent-cli can stream content to AirPlay, Chromecast and DLNA but it also offers some advanced features such as the ability to use different media players like VLC or mpv instead of the built-in player. However, it also does not support subtitles.

Installation latest version into Linux Mint:

1. Download DEB file from the official website

2. Install it

3. After installation, run the app once through the terminal
